As I said earlier sparkdan.
At your age go for the apprenticeship route. Sign up for college, go visit some contractors, tell them your interested in a career in the trade and that your doing your 2330 in Sept on day release (or evenings, whatever) and take it from there. You've got age on your side and don't really need to be burdening yourself with loans (4-6k at a training centre for full quals).
Look at it another way. Whilst I'm sure it's all well and good going to these training centres (I wouldn't know) and at the end of the courses you have all the relevant paperwork/certificates etc you don't actually have any "on the job/onsite" experience.
