HI chaps this might sound like an odd one but i need a 10A rated 240V relay that is switched by an electro mechanical switch that is rated at 800W. so i need the 800W switch to switch a relay to to caryy about 2000W the reason for this is the system i am using cant switch such a high load so the solution is to use a relay to do this i want to use the feed that feeds the relay to feed the switch as well.

I tired a quick sketch but what i need is a suitable relay I am getting lost at RS and CPC looking for the right sort so any help anyone?

Hi dragon, the relay you have listed will do what you want, but as with most relays you will need a base to plug it in to, which you can then couple your wires to.

Actually, the one you have picked is physically quite large, there are smaller ones that will do what you want, try RS no 329-7207 (relay) and 353-950 (base). Am assuming you need just single pole switching. These relays also have a led to show when they are energised, and a mechanical indicator. Used them loads of times for varios applications.

Just make sure you put a small fuse or breaker in line with the coil.

THanks SPuD what sort of size fuse do you think will be needed? The switch module i think is internally fused. and the main feed will be supplied from a breaker. Ideally i wanted panel mounted bases as the sytem in the diagram is going to be remotely located in a weatherproof box.

Dragon, The base has a screw hole through the center, or it will DIN rail mount (unless I gave you the wrong number).

As for fuse size, 1A is well big enough, but the RS catalogue listing will tell you more about the coil impedance etc and you should be able to work it out from that.

HI Spud/spurscarper thanks alot for the advice we have one running sucessfully on a DIN rail in the enclosure took a bit to figure it out the data sheet wasn't great and neither was Omron support but its in and working and a very useful trick to have up our sleeve.
