Best to let us know where you live as you may find that someone has been to the establishment you intend to go to and give you much better feedback before you part with your money.

Just remember that OLCI is a distance learning facility... you get out of it what you put in.. I think it is ideally suited to tradespeople who are engaged in or allied to the electrical industry who want to get certificates quickly.. and people who wanna do a LOT!! of back ground reading and research.

If you have no / little experience of using tools, working with electrical materials etc you may be better going to one of the full time courses such as Able skills as OLCI have very very minimal practical hands on workshops. Although I stand corrected that their Testing module and fault finding / rectification module is basically the 2391 practical...

The secret to passing the Golas is getting ahold of Trevor Lindsley's Basic ( part2) & Advanced ( part3) "Electrical Installation Work" and paying little attention to the £500 course notes.
I was out of the Golas in under 20mins with distinctions using the above..

I've started dong the 2330 course with Olci, will be doing the workshop bit in Cardiff.
Was made redundant so no job at present, so in theory plent of time to study!!

OLCI say to pass the 2330 level 2 & 3 should take 6-8 months. Is this realistic, and if not how long did it take any of you who took their course?

So far I have been at it for around a month and am just starting unit 3. (having an A level in maths certainly helped with the equasions)

Did level 2 & 3 & 17th edition in under 6 months, but I was pretty much full time studying and doing loads of back ground reading...

I did the level 2 and level 3 in about a year and a half. Had to wait quite a few months before my annual holiday came round again as they never had weekends - which is how they sell the courses to most poeple stating they do weekends!!!!! If you can get it all booked up in one go, and pass it all fist time you could in theory do it in less then 6 months. But not worth taking the risk as I hear it's expensive to re-take the workshops.

Anyhoo, the gola exmas are pretty easy... if you put the work in

I didnt touch the reading materials they gave as it was found to be incorrect and all over the place. I bought some 2330 and nvq books by JTL (I think thats who they where by) Also, I found the exams you can purchase from here....
Electrical Exams - Covering electrical exam preparation for all exams from the 2382 to the 2330

to be a massive help!!!! Deffo worth buying, they also update the questions so you can always use them to keep testing yourself.

olci training is a joke , lucky for me i've been in the trade a while so had a good electrical knowledge, but have seen people with no previous experience going on the olci courses and they dont fair very well even if they pass the exams they still dont have any in depth trade knowledge. the olci course will not give you the knowledge to become a electrician. A BETTER ALTERNATIVE IS TO DO THE 2330 VIA YOUR LOCAL COLLEGE, it may take longer to complete but you will get better training for half the price of olci.

Compare the college prices and private prices, I paid £1500 for the 2330 level 3. My mate at college paid £600. He got a better tutor who stayed on at the college throught out the course. I had 3 different tutors and it was a joke.

Good luck
