Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and would like some advice with regards to the various courses available and any recommendations you may have.
I'm 38 years old and have just moved back to the UK (North Wales) from Italy where I have spent the last twelve years. I would now like to make a change and am seriously considering training for a career as an electrician. In my situation as it is at the moment, the idea of some sort of fast track / intensive training course is the most attractive as I would like to get into employment in this field as soon as possible. Before any of you jump on my case, I do realize that one of these courses can no way make up for the years of time earned experience that are needed to become a good and competent tradesman. I do hope however that I can get the bare minimum in terms of training, practical experience and to pass the exams as well. I don't pretend to finish any course, however good it's supposed to be, and just go off and become a self employed domestic electrician either but would look to become part of a team where experience could be gained gradually from others and in practical terms.
I have spoken to one company - Access trade careers -
Access Career Training
They propose a course split into 4 modules. The first two covering the part P full scope and the second two for the C&G 2382, 2392-10 and 2391-10.
Their take on it is that they will allow you to study for each module in your own time with the assistance of on of their 'Dedicated personal mentors',available on a freephone number in case you get stuck or need advice and then when you feel ready, book yourself in for five days training at their centre in Cardiff followed by the relative exam/tests. Once that's done you go home and get on with the next module. It sounds good to me because you can move at your own pace and be sure about the syllabus content but not cheap at almost 5.5K.
Have any of you had dealings with or heard of them ? I would be interested to hear any opinions of feedback whatsoever.
Would be very interested t hear of any other training companies/courses which ave a good rep and offer a quality service.
Thanks.
Help & Advice Needed
I've just found this thread started by Irishmalt who is asking about the same company but there is no conclusive information given by anyone who has been to do a course with them. If anyone has any further info to offer it would be most welcome as well as any other recommendations too.
