8ft Fluorescent tubes - Discontinued?
Had a customer ask me to replace 2x 8ft Fluorescent fittings in his Garage. Picked them up from the Wholesalers, but received a call from the customer stating that the 8ft Lamps are discontinued (or phasing out). If this is right, (I've found some mention on Google) can the 8ft lamps be replaced with an alternative Lamp?

if you can't fix it with a hammer...You have an electrical problem..
If it has Breasts or an engine..It will give you trouble.

Re: 8ft Fluorescent tubes - Discontinued?
All other tube sizes are safe for now but yes 8fts are phasing out now, partly due to the fact they cant follow their other tubes into the slimline market and are still stuck in the T12 size which costs and wastes too much in production, all other T12 were phased out yrs ago and even T8 are now been replaced on shorter tubes with T5, so in this world of recycle and 'green environment' the 8ft couldnt follow its shorter range of tubes as it would be too unstable at that length and just keep breaking in your hands.

Re: 8ft Fluorescent tubes - Discontinued?
I thought it was something to do with the 100 Watt threshold hence the demise of larger Tungsten F bulbs, I cant see the point of doing away with 70W tubes if you can still buy twin pop packs in all Wattages, the push already seems to be on to do away with switch start in favour of Electronic HF, they are easier to fit when your own your own, they are very light.

Re: 8ft Fluorescent tubes - Discontinued?
They are being phased out and are only made by one manufacturer, in this case sylvania. As with all things that are monopolised the price just keeps going up and up. There are some available though from sites like lampshoponline.com
