certifying someone elses work?

im registered with nic and ive been asked by someone to sign off their work for them. i was involved with planning the job and did the 1st fixing but thats about it. the job has been completed by someone else. ive tested the job and it seems sound. does certifying someone elses work hold any risk with building control? does it have any tax issues as the job is not going through my books only the new install certificate. can i put the name of the installer who completed the job?

You could issue a 3 part EIC, with the designer, installer and you as the inspector signing the relavent parts.

This shows the difference between 'certify' and 'notify'.

The NICEIC in line with Document P insist that 'the enterprise' completes the work before notifying, to stop this very scenario.

The only risk with Building Control is the fact that you've assumed full responsibility for a job that you didn't complete.

Your decision but I'd be saying 'no thanks'.

I would have to agree with IQ on this one.

Seems strange did they get the 2nd fix cheaper or something and they were unable to test and certify so they called you back.

many companys have electricians who sign off other peoples work. building control will sign off work if you cant self certify[for a fee]. it is not a problem.as long as you are happy with 1st fix and 2nd fix and test results ok . just put designer / installer / and tester names in boxes and you are only liable for the part you have played

You are not only liable for that part if you are notifying the work through your scheme membership! You are confusing 'certifying' with 'notifying'.

All the op has to do is call the NICEIC helpline and ask, it's pretty simple.
