Hello again,

I don't know if my college is the only one but I noticed that the first year (part time) of the 2330 level 2 course has gone up in price by 36% (from £589 to £802) from last year. The 2nd year only went up by about 16% ((£435 to £505)which seems a lot even so) and the level three course has jumped up by a whopping 86% (£550 to £1025)

All of the concession prices stayed the same (but I don't qualify

)

Is this normal? Is it my college having a laugh or are there perhaps some changes to the course from C&G that would justify such a large increase? If thats the price I will have to pay it, but it would be interesting to know if any of you know anything.

I payed around £900 for level 3 of 2330

Not sure if this is true but i asked this question a couple of weeks ago to my tutor and his reply was ' the higher the qualification the higher the fee' ...go figure! 2330 level 3 doesn't even have any practical sessions as such so its not as if the increased fees are covering equipment costs

when you compare this price to say a degree which can cost thousands then i suppose there could be some logic to it.....my sympathy goes out to the companies paying for there apprentices to attend though, as if there anything like some of the students at my college then it looks like good money down the drain

mind you its nice to see the young fellas catching up on some much needed sleep

I guess my college must have woken up to what other colleges are charging and bumped up the charges. It just seems unfair that the grafters who work hard to earn enough to pay the full price are fleeced while the slackers on benefits dont get a single price increase...

Apologies to anyone out there who is genuinly on benefits for reasons beyond their control. I am speaking about those who could work but refuse to...

My 1st yr was £730, 2nd yr £830 and 3rd yr was £930. (roughly). Ain't bothering with NVQ3 as don't see point in paying another £800 just do do a frikkin log book. Bit too long in the tooth for that.

I asked what the reason was for the big price increases when I went for my interview. I was told that it is because our wonderful labour government have reduced funding in education. So if I was a lazy individual at school and failed to pass any GCSE's then I could get free tuition to Level 2

but as I worked hard and make a decent living now I have to pay the full price of £802 for year one.

They have completely stopped all funding for level 3 and above. Oh well, such is life...

I left school with no quals whatsoever. Does that mean I qualify for free tuition then? Not according to the colleges I've spoken to.

Anyway, sorry to hijack this thread but this question is aimed at cirrus (or indeed anyone who has completed or is currently undertaking the 2330).

What do the 3yrs cover? Whilst speaking to a tutor the other day he mentioned year 1 covers H&S and equations.

Year 2= First fix

Year 3= Second fix

Is this about right?

Hi Bane,

My prospectus said "If you are 19+ and don't have a full level 2 qualification you may get free tuition if you're studying on a course with the symbol L2E (level 2 entitlement) Level 2 qualification is 4 GCSE's A-C; GNVQ Intermediate; BTEC First Diploma; NVQ2; or Specialist Vocational Qualifications Level 2

No Bane - well off the mark. Year 1 is basic ring mains, 1 and 2 way and intermediate lighting, a little testing and in theory classes you will cover the basics - a few formulas and science. Year 2 is a little harder with lighting design, a lot more theory, theory assignments and a 2 day practical exam and a lot of metal work (trunking, conduit, tray etc). Of course, as in yr 1 there are exams. Year 3 is far more intense with most of it based around fault diagnosis, inspection and testing, motors and three phase.

Health and safety comes up in all 3 of the years exam wise! I have missed bits out but that should give you an idea. To be honest, I slept through the first 2 years!
