    Question Sun Tan Booth Issues . . . . ??

I have recently hooked up a sun tan booth for a friend of mine. The people he bought it off claimed that "all it needs is a cooker plug". Once I had looked around it and saw a 10mm T&E hanging from the control box. As the booth is in his garage, I started with a shower enclosure C.U with RCD and a 40a Type B breaker and then ran 10mm SWA to a D.P 40a Switch by the booth. Then connected the T&E into the switch. Problem is when the timer runs out and switches the booth off it trips the 40a MCB. Do I need to start thinking contactors and a Type C MCB???

    Cheers

Although you are using a 40A breaker you don't say what the equipment load is?

The tanning booth's we have installed require 32a supply, we always feed them via a 32a RCBO and install 32a isolator adjacent the booth, check the loading and install RCBO and isolator accordingley

To be fair, if its tripping a 40a MCB then it'll trip a 32a. Not sure unless the actual unit is faulty or the switch is knackered in the booth and its breaking down while trying break the contact??

Im not suggesting you install 32a OCPD and RCBO, that was just an example of the set up, you need to verify loading and install appropriate OCPD and RCBO

I would be checking the connections on the timer, but you've probably already done that.

I had an odd one with some storage heater fans wired through a timer years ago, they switched on fine but every time the clock switched them off it blew the mcb.Eventually traced to a nail through one of the cables...barely shorting...just a flicker on the megger....but you'd expect it to blow when switching on,which it never did yet it was every time on switching off. Just a thought that it could be a similar thing.

I was thinking timer all the way. May have to sit down with a cuppa and take things off and inspect them. Everytime I work for mates it costs me, how does that work?!? LOL.
