Default How do I get a job?

Hi I'm new to here. What I could do with some help on is how to find an electricians job with very little experience. I have 2360 and 2391 and I'm no idiot. I've even tried to find someone to work with for free on weekends to gain some experience but no luck. I have had some interviews but the lack of experience lets me down every time.I'm willing to start at the bottom and have a good work record.Considering they told me that there was a huge shortage of electricians I'm not having much luck. Can anyone help me? Also if there is anyone near or in Worcester who wants a hand at weekends or even looking for an electricians mate please get in touch.

Hiya, I was in the same situation as you 3 months back. I had been on a course , got my 2381, 2377 and eal domestic installers scheme, pending on my 2391 exam in feb.

I found it very hard to get a job, the technique I did was send letters out. I Had a cover letter and a 2 page Cv, all printed on quailty carded coloured paper. With windowed envolopes. It might sound a little over the top, but that extra bit you put into your letters makes the difference. I had people ringing me up telling me how nicely presented the cv and letter was, but unable to offer me a job. Eventually somebody took a chance on me and have taken me on. My hour paid is low at the moment but once I get some experience it'll go up.

I sent around 350 letters off, to companies not offering jobs. Actually the current company I'm with wasn't offering any jobs at the time but still took me on.

If you keep looking something will turn up, usually when your least expecting it.

Regards Luke (admin)

Thanks for the reply Luke. I have been trying writing to loads of places but no luck, but will try a better quality CV as it certainly couldnt hurt. My only other option is to go for Part P at some time and go it alone but I'd prefer not to really. Will let you know how I get on. Cheers. Steve

I have been trying for a few months getting the same responses, because of my lack of experience. I have this week got work as a mate after seeing a job on the jobcentre website, talking to the ****** and telling them I was willing to take a small cut in the pay, because of my experience. So keep trying everything, a cut in money is better than no money to start with.

Well Jack, glad to hear you got a start at least! Pity about you having to take a pay cut. I think these firms know that ppl really want to get on/in with them and unfortunately exploit this situation to their advantage. Then agai, if I was in there place, I'dprobably do the same (wouldn't most of us?)

Anyway, good luck for the future jack.

Whatabout you SteveF? Had any luck?
