| Re: Need Advice Please City and Guilds 2330 (can be done at college 2-3yrs or at a training centre over a few months)
EAL Domestic Installer Scheme (think can only be done at a training centre)
As for getting on yell.com for electricians in your area then e-mail them a covering letter with a cv. Phone places. Visit in person. Ask for any vacancies, even just as a labourer (to start). Ask friends if they know anyone, ask them to ask their friends etc.
How old are you~~? | | |

| Re: Need Advice Please really, you only need your 17th, thats the minimum they ask for, depends which company its for, some dont want anything, some do. I'd say 17th is a must. as for getting ajob, try as hard as possible, send loads of letter, loads, make sure the letter is good too. Don't be afraid to ring up too

| | Guest | Re: Need Advice Please I disagree and suggest you take the 2330 C&G course followed by the 2381. This is a very common way to get into it. Most employers won't even consider you without enrolling on the 2330 course. | | |

| Re: Need Advice Please As I said earlier sparkdan.
At your age go for the apprenticeship route. Sign up for college, go visit some contractors, tell them your interested in a career in the trade and that your doing your 2330 in Sept on day release (or evenings, whatever) and take it from there. You've got age on your side and don't really need to be burdening yourself with loans (4-6k at a training centre for full quals).
Look at it another way. Whilst I'm sure it's all well and good going to these training centres (I wouldn't know) and at the end of the courses you have all the relevant paperwork/certificates etc you don't actually have any "on the job/onsite" experience.
Just my humble opinion. | | |

| | Guest | Re: Need Advice Please I paid for college myself - 2 nights a week over 3 years. First 2 years cost me around £790 with the final year being £930. My college let you pay by direct debit each month. Some employers will actually pay for you but they are becoming hard to find! | | |

| Re: Need Advice Please I dont know whether theres a JTL in your area, they try and find you a job and get you into college, and can get government funding I think 16 - 25, but i think at 19 you too late for a full grant off the governement, well it was for me last year when I apply to them, don't know if the jtl company is a government ran business |
