I've been running my own business for a few months and everything is going well. i had an enquiry by a local college to do some PAT testing for them. i did the work and invoiced them, now they are saying they need to see proof of my qualifications in PAT testing before they pay up. I thought i was covered by my apprentiship quals which are C&G 236 Part 1 and 2 Plus the AM1 and 2. Or do i have to have a seperate PAT testing qualification also? Anyhelp would be appreciated

My understanding is you need seperate PAT testing qualifications and even if you are niceic registered they still require extra payment to be niceic pat registered, mate of mine has gotta pay £300 quid more to be pat registered with niceic even though he got domestic installer ticket.

Think thats pretty accurate, now i got ya attention do you have an example of something that has reinforced insulation in a domestic propertey?

Just get yourself on the PAT testing 1 day course! Makes me larf as even a 1 fingered monkey can PAT test

My `one day course` turned out to be 2 hours at a cost of £160 (about 5 years ago) - at least I got the certificate and the PAT testing regs book.

Reinforced insulation is the same as double insulated, so it's asking is there any class 2 kit used in the installation. And the answer is probabley "yes" some light fittings. They would be a british standard symbol on the fitting to tell you. It's a small square within a larger square.

most places offering PAT testing in one day are offering 2377-002, which is ONLY the testing element

You also need 2377-001, which is the management of PAT Testing


essentially with 002, you can only plug in and press the button,
you need 001 to decide on periodicy of testing, FVI or CIT etc

We run it as a three day course, including the practical
