1mill/2mill may seem excessive but if you say cause a gas leak and subsequently blow up a building like a school which then burns down, you need to be covered fully and some firms working on such jobs wont sub- you without 10mill' cover which when you think about it could easily be used up with such a big project and all the reschooling costs of thousands of pupils.

Fair point. Didn't think of it like that. Doubt my insurer would still be charging me £60 a year if I made a £10 million claim

Public liabilty will cover you against a claim being made against you by a client ( especially if you damage their property)
Employers liabilty will cover you should any of your employees make a claim against you - this can be a mine field!
Proffesional endemnity will cover you for your design of the installation ( if you carry out an installation without the guidance of a consulting engineer) and you make a cock up and your client can prove negligence your in deep ****!)
If your self employed it willcost you peanuts

Generally no although technically you are responsible for the design of the installation but if your only doing domestics and small commercial don't bother .

Public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance are two different things.

Public Liability Insurance covers your business when it comes into contact with clients or members of the public. But, Professional Indemnity Insurance covers for anyone who provides advice, design work or any other professional service.

I suggest, you seek professional advice. Recently I bought a Professional Indemnity Insurance policy from Professional Indemnity Insurance Quotes | PI Insurance and am quite happy about their price and services.

    Its worth checking with them.

If you need any more info, feel free to contact me.

    Thanks.

Hi Al, I get it from Ashburnham Insurance.

    www.ashburnham-insurance.co.uk

A guy I chat to on another forum recommended them and I've not been able to beat them on price. Can't comment on claims as never had one (touch wood).

Public liability insurance is a must, i would deem anyone working on my property without it as a cowboy.
It is very cheap for the level of cover you get.

i paid £65 for £2m PLI, £1000 free tool insurance all risks (excesses apply if nicked from van), and £5000 personal injury cover which was a standard part of the policy, all this for the price of 13 packets of fags.
And its tax deductable at the end of the year, or aren't you registered with her majesty's finest

    Cheers........Howard

Youve been had mate £120! for £2m...........i would be shopping about, the most i paid was £85 and that was a few years ago. i know it might vary a bit depending on where you are but that seems awful steep to me.

Have a look at trades direct or the one who sponsors this site.
