hello all,

Failed my 2395 written exam and from wanted help understanding the following questions that came up

State two reasons why it is important that the phase sequence is confirmed throughout the installation?

State two methods to confirm phase sequence with an installation?

The circuits for the tills and security equipment cannot be isolated, during periodic testing, which TWO tests for the WHOLE installation can NOT be carried out together with a reason to why and a recommendation?

hello all,

Failed my 2395 written exam and from wanted help understanding the following questions that came up

State two reasons why it is important that the phase sequence is confirmed throughout the installation?
1. machines run the right way. 2, sequence should be preserved for future work?

State two methods to confirm phase sequence with an installation?
1.phase rotation meter.
2. visual inspection.

The circuits for the tills and security equipment cannot be isolated, during periodic testing, which TWO tests for the WHOLE installation can NOT be carried out together with a reason to why and a recommendation?

1. L-N IR test. possible damage to connected equipment.
2. Dead Tests, as the installation cannot be isolated.

my commentds in red. might not be wholly accurate, but feel free to discuss.

1 Ze (N.B. "for the whole installation") which would not include final circuits but the whole installation.
2 Bonding tests for continuity again affecting the whole installation.
As this would not be possible during working hours;
Recommendation to conduct test "out of hours"
I think here is a classic example of carefully reading the question as it specifically says the whole installation. So looked at from that viewpoint, what tests apply to the whole installation as opposed to final ccts in the installation. You have to be very careful when reading.

Establishing phase sequence
1 Continuity of each phase conductor while dead using link between L1 then L2 and then L3 and CPC and testing at each point in system.
2 Using a phase rotation instrument using either
a rotating disc
b or indicator lamps
Done to ensure or avoid
Motors run in correct direction
Equipment not operating as expected or incorrectly

Do you have Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations Learning guide published by Certsure Ltd? if not would recommend getting it. A very thorough walk through. Of course GN3 must be digested as well as that is what the whole course is based on.

Hi sat mine and failed as well, the feed back they give is not that helpful
I answered question 3
as ze and IR

But reading some of the threads i would change that to Ze and continuity bonding as the whole system

what question did you have for your 15 marks
i had cable termination but i choose to list items on gn3 page 81 which only scored 40%

what did you put for operational characterics of RCBO for additional protection

The operational characteristics of an RCBO for additional protection would seem to be a <=30mA RCD that operates in 40ms or less at 5I⌂n.
The MCB portion does not provide additional protection.

i did the same and passed it the characteristics of the RCBO is;
overload protection
short circuirt protection
earth fault
I put simpler
Did you have the cable termination question that s where I lost most of my marks I took from page 81
only scoring 40%
Example
Circuit cable-connection under no due strain -sight

I put things like conductor corrects size sight

conductor correct colour sleeving strappers and cpc sight
Cables discolouring insulation sight
Cables correct bending radius sight
Conductor correct termination sight
Conductor mechanically sound touch

i did the same and passed it the characteristics of the RCBO is;
overload protection
short circuirt protection
earth fault

thx

Did you have any question regarding phase sequence other than the above post
2 methods rotation disc , indicating lamp, continuity of phases through out the install.
reasons, motors wrong rotation, equipment not operating as suspected

There was also another question in that section one which was on the measuring the single phase
as i did not get continuity correct i guessing that was the answer
