Hi,

Last year i had an office built in my garden and a 10mm SWA was laid between the main consumer unit in the house and that in the office. I have 2 sheds about 40m from the office & 15m apart and i'll like 3 double sockets in 1 and 1 light fitting and a double in the other and 1 light fitting. In the larger shed I would be using power tools.
What I would like to ideally do is lay 10mm between the office and the 2 sheds as i have quite a bit left over. I would then like to hook this up at the other end externally to another consumer unit/RCD and then have my electrician connect the two sheds to this.
Is this a good way to go about it?

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I think you are envisaging "daisy chaining" the same cable over I guess 65m as you did not say how far the office is from its supply. However discrimination would be a problem vis a vis the RCDs involved as chained and volt drop would have to be calculated which may in turn require different cable. As said, ask your Electrician. You may find you need separate supplies to each. As all three on the first supply out may be over the load capability of the supply, discrimination problems aside.

The Electrician is on holiday hence the reason why i have posted the question and all being well with the weather over the weekend I will then lay the cable.

Your limiting factor will now become the calculations that should have been carried out before the selection
Its then a case of being able to use what it will allow rather than using what you want
Design usually comes before installation

Obviously design comes before installation. When he hooked up the office I did say to him at the time that I would like to have a workshop at some point in the garden. He therefore recommended the 10mm and supplied a reel of this. This he laid from the consumer unit to the end of the house and then used 10mm SWA to the office and this is also why I have so much of it leftover. So total distance from the office to the consumer unit is about 45m. Until i get round to building or having the workshop built, I would like get power to the 2 sheds or at the very least just one of them. The last thing i want to do is lay the 10mm and then have the change this based on what i want to achieve in the interim.

Wise words indeed. Best wait for your electrician to come back from holiday so he can design this properly for you thus avoiding a future kerfuffle.

I just came to that decision after my last posting. So annoying though as I would have loved to start the garden path tomorrow. Bike ride all day its going to be now......................

Cheers Guys.
