hi all, done a eicr recently and found the following and would like thoughts on the codes? Thinking code 2 but bit harsh to fail the installation on these points esp as its been like it for 30 ish years and no problems or atleast that's what the owner will say!!

Cpc used as live on landing 2way switch ( both points have a cpc connected.

Single insulated cables buried in the walk and voids.

Black single insulated cable used as cpc for kitchen light point

In advice would be great.

Cheers

It's hardly harsh to point out that those are all potentially dangerous defects! It would be criminally insane to suggest that the installation is suitable to be in service in that condition regardless of how long it has been like that.

Ahh now then, I assume the box did not have a plate on it?

So, that's a 47mm box, buried probably another 20mm from finished plaster level.

On that basis, the cable itself is more than 50mm from the surface, so no code.

The termination of the cable is a pile of poo, and should at least be in a Wago, so probably only deserves a C3.

I'll get me coat.

Found this on a 10 year old block of apartments, the 5th apartment I went in, a 5x5mm hole in the wall drew my attention.. then the lack of shaver point like the others had made me tap away at the hole, until this was found!

You didn't have to cut it in or chase in the 47mm and you had one in your stock - every sparks dream of a good day, result I say!

The CPC on the two way lighting is in T&E I presume....Could be in flex, though very unlikely. To the OP, you are there to report not to make friends. The ESF guide is pretty decent for example codes. But you should know that using an uninsulated CPC as a live conductor is not good...not good at all.

As a QS you are supposed to be telling other less informed Electricians if and where they are going wrong, the questions you ask should not becoming from yourself, you should know what is right or wrong.
