Hi all, it's been a while since I've been on, apologies. I am debating whether I need to replace the bonding to the gas meter. The meter is positioned outside and the bonding has been previously run as shown in the images. My first question is, is the weathering shown to the cable an issue...
Hello, I have a customer who is looking to replace their electric shower. There is equipotential bonding connected to the cold feed. I’ve not seen it within an electric shower before.
I was wondering if it has to stay or if it can be removed? The customer is considering changing the model of...
TNC-S main supply with 16mm swa supplying garage consumer unit from main consumer unit in house, then 4mm swa supplying pond equipment through pond fuse box. (Pond cable run approx 40m)
Pond has a metal unistrutt frame and cover over pond equipment, this frame has its support legs concreted...
Hi there,
Just a quick question. Does a main protective bonding conductor require UV protection when run outside?
I am under the impression that this is not a requirement as such, but if possible, it should be considered. Especially if installing a smaller sized conductor.
I am running a main...
Disclaimer: I'm not going to attempt this job myself, I want a professional to do this job properly since I consider it non-trivial and need it safe as poss. The reason I'm posting it in DIY is because I want to understand it properly.
I believe our plumbing is not bonded/earthed. Quite clear...
I've tried to understand one way or another but this seems to be connected to the DNO fuse/cutout, and then loops down (out of sight) and comes back up to connect to the outer sheath.
The bonding looks like 6mm^2. And the connection point looks like that's the max it will take. As I understand...
I know once you see plastic entering then you don’t need to bond as it says on site guide.(enters the house plastic then it’s metal)
Would I be in wrong if I have earthed the plastic gas pipes ?
Can someone point me in right direction in on site guide if it’s wrong and why it’s wrong ?
Morning All,
Think I'm having a brain fart but I have a 70mm2 4 core SWA with a separate 35mm2 CPC.
Earthing is TNS with main bonding requirements being 25mm2.
Using table 54.7 - CPC is half of line conductor so 35mm2.
Am I correct in thinking the 35mm2 conductor is adequate for both CPC and...
Hi all,
I would like some advice on a scenario currently at my workplace. I am replacing a Sub main DB and replacing the wiring to sockets/lights in one of our storage buildings.
My question is regarding bonding. The main bonding is 25mm, which from the sub mains EMT, my plan was to bond the...
Not sure on this one.
Mains water is coming up from the ground in lead pipe in bathroom. 2 inches of copper pipe before the stop tap. All pipework inside the house after stop tap is plastic.
Does that 2 inch of copper pipe before stop need mains bonding?
Incoming supply on our job comes into the building and then the tails from which go into a switched isolator with 200A fuses fitted.
No idea what size the incoming fuses are or incoming conductor sizes. Would have to contact the DNO but not sure whether they would give that info to anyone or...
Just a thought guys in terms of RCBO’s and supplementary bonding.
Obviously supplementary bonding isn’t required as long as a 17th / 18th condition consumer unit is fitted (dual RCD protecting all circuits) but what if it’s a main switch only with individual RCBO’s?
What is stopping somebody...
I'm working on a system that has been installed incorrectly. It's a 3ph Hager board with 8 swa cables glanded into the bottom entry panel. The install is fine except the earth tag (banjos) haven't been fitted and they have relied on the metal plate as an earth. My question is, can you get a...
Hello,
Carrying out remedial work on a commercial site and I've come across a metal out building that has a water supply to it. The water pipe comes out of the ground behind the building in copper but enters the building in plastic. There is conduit on the outside of the building next to the...
Hello. Non-electrician here. Failed an EICR yesterday as the electrician graded my consumer unit C2.
Why C2 and not C3? He didn't say (and still won't). Consumer unit is the same age as the building - dates from 2003. No RCD. But never had any issues. No apparent defects.
Apparently lack of...
Curious about supplementary bonding, I have these two 4mm Cables loose and not connected to anything in my parents house. I presume they are for the hot and cold copper pipes, my questions is do i need to join/make a connection between the hot and cold pipes? I work as an electrical improver...
Hi forum members, I hope someone can assist with my enquiry. I have been advised that to comply with BS7671 Reg 132.16 my solar and battery installation will require equipotential bonding at my gas meter and water stopcock, but for the life of me I can't understand why if the appropriate...
What are the regulations requirements on Earth bonding ?
I am currently planning a 1st fix re wire
I have the following setup
Gas Meter
Mains water after stop tap whole house is plastic.
Combi Boiler
Thanks in advance
This thread is in relation to the job at the farm I am thinking of taking on (3 phase thread).
At present the farm is all PME. I believe it needs to be TT'd as they have now brought 2 x goats in to the main barn (no other animals anywhere). In addition they have some feed for the goats and also...
