I have a ceiling fan with a light box controlled by 2 wall dimmer switches. I simply want to replace them with standard 2 way switches. Coming into the box there are 2 white wires and 1 black wire that are wired to the old switches with 1 white wire spliced to connect to both switches. Seems to...
I destroyed the directional switch in my ceiling fan with fixing the speed control. I live in a small city in Africa and can't get replacement parts. I'm also not really electrically inclined. Is there a way I can trouble shoot the wires that go into the directional switch in order to bypass...
I want to replace my wall dimmer switch with a normal 1 gang one way switch. When I pulled out the dimmer switch three wires came loose (!!!) so I am not sure of their connections.. The dimmer switch had a COM and an L1 connection. The L2 was not available. The new switch has a COM and an L1...
Hi all. We have a stairway to our basement that obviously lines up with the stairway to the second story. The basement stairway is drywall under the upper stairs - drywall ceiling. It's very dark and not very attractive. I've kicked around lots of ideas: sconces, lamps, rope lighting, step...
Hi,
Hoping for some guidance please. I am undertaking a 3/4 garage conversion as a DIY project. It’s not to building regs and is intended as a ‘remove it if ever sell’ situation.
The garage has existing power outlet - it’s a double socket on a ring main (not a spur). The issue I have is the...
Hello everyone.
So I am replacing an old ceiling light fitting in my bedrooom. There are only 2 wires coming from the ceiling and the new light has a ground wire. How can I connect the new lamp up. Do I just connect the old wires and then leave the ground in the new connects?
I should add I...
Hi all,
Have a plasterer coming overboard and skim a ceiling and I gather it is not good form to board around a rose, so ...
Would it be best to unscrew the rose and just knock through to the loft and push it through and board over the lot?
Then I can just reposition the wiring afterwards...
Hi, I have an existing ceiling fan that I want to remove and replace with just a regular ceiling rose light. When I removed the rose, I found that the neutral has only one cable, so assumed this is the last light on the loop, but I'm confused as it appears that the S/L has two cables coming in...
To find the electrician had spurred off the ring main in 2 x 2.5mm cables to 2 new sockets in bedroom above.
This was done a year ago by an electrician from Mybuilder.com
I doubt if it was tested but if it had of been would this of shown up in a test?
Secondly is this a way of spurring off...
I know fire rated downlights are installed in false or suspended ceilings as the normal as the cost difference is small...
But what about PIR sensor in a false ceiling or a suspended grid ceiling wouldn't they need to be fire rated if it was a fire rated ceiling?
Good morning and a very happy lockdown to all :)
I'm using this tedious 'holiday' to fit a new suspended grid ceiling in my large open workshop.
Here's the provisional lighting plan, using drop-in 600 square LED panels from TLC. I have three existing circuits available (currently feeding 5 x...
My ceiling lights were flickering, I found something sticking out of one of the three sockets. Only one looks like the picture. I put another bulb in there, it blew immediately and now the lights are no longer flickering.
I like to be able to connect an electrical tool such as small vacuum cleaner to clean things on the attic or a light.
For convenience, I like to plug one end of this cord to an outlet on the ground level, then let it run straight up to a small hole on the ceiling to the attic. So, only a few...
Hello, I have a very heavy frosted glass ceiling lamp and I have noticed that the top conical plastic part looks as if it got disconnected from the glass at some point. I don't know if it was installed like this because it was already like this when I moved in. I have a cat and I don't want him...
So I'm doing a wee home cinema project, and have a decent LED UST projector that I want to stick out of the way, in the ceiling. From an AV wiring perspective, a doddle. From an electrical perspective, pain in the arse, and advice greatly appreciated!
The projector came with a transformer...
Hi all
regarding securing cables above suspended ceiling. Is there anything against the regs from tie wrapping down a threaded rod to a light fitting. To keep it off the ceiling. This is run in FP200 so has earthed shield inside ?
New house, half the ceiling lights on the first floor flicker randomly. Sometimes it takes a few minutes after being turned on, sometimes immediately. But the lighting fixture will flicker for about 5 seconds and then stop, and a few minutes later it will flicker again. The kitchen lights do not...
