Evening all,
Having a debate with a colleague about using the SWA armouring and a separate conductor both as CPC's for a circuit. So in theory bringing down the Zs of a circuit due to using both as CPC's.
I'm swaying to thinking this is wrong however, I'm struggling to find any regs to express...
Hello,
I have a Leviton 51120-1 SPD connected to a residential (120/240V) 200A breaker/service main panel – The 51120 is fed from (2qty) – 20A breakers in the service panel – All wires connected to the 51120 (L1&L2 hot, neut,& ground) are 12 AWG stranded conductors – The install instructions...
Hello DIYer here,
Seeking advice on running a 240V 30AMP circuit to an air compressor in the shop. Roughly about 25 foot run from panel to location of compressor.
Have 8/3 cable with 3/4" emt for surface mount run. Can I place the sheathed 8/3 cable inside the EMT or do conductors need to be...
This is a question (or discussion probably) regarding selecting the main earthing conductor, and subsequently the main equipotential bonding conductor sizes in a TNCS installation. We are fitting a replacement consumer unit only.
The property currently has 4mm bonding cable installed to gas and...
Hello, I've worked on a few old lewden boards recently and the quality is terrible. When fitting rcbos in 16th edition boards there's a solid bar that gets in the way of the taller device and they go in wonky enough as is. I was considering swapping it for a 100A flexible link, are any of you...
Hello everyone,
I’m based in the ROI and live in a rural location. Yesterday evening my electricity supply started to switch on and off randomly. After waiting for the evening for it to come back on it still has not. I checked my neighbors who are on the same DSO as my house and they all have...
I have Nanoleaf LED light strips that I need to go around a corner and also bridge a blank space. Nanoleaf is always sold out of the extender wires and the generic ones on Amazon get bad reviews. These specific lights are different than most and have 6 pin connectors. Can I get standard 6...
I have a 2 metre T&E cable. I applied a IR test (500v) across P and N to E with the other end of the cable safely sitting on the floor and it reported the meter maximum. As expected.
I then completely cut through the N conductor on the cable and repeated the test. It still reports the meter...
Hello, I’m building a wood shop. I’m planning on installing 240 and 120 outlets. I plan to connect to my supply panel using a 90 amp breaker. They’re run to the shop is 140 feet. I will use 2” underground conduit. I’m just not sure what size and what rated copper conductors to use. I used...
What do you guys think about using decommissioned gas pipe which is welded throughout and 4" industrial in steel.
I am clear on regs that say you cannot utilise a gas, oil or water pipe as a bonding conductor but this would effectively safe a lot of time and money.
I know main bonding to water and gas need to be 0.05 ohms
But what about the main earthing conductor?
Does it have a maximum resistance value from MET to the CU?
During an EICR i have found from the ryefield to each cut out wired in 25mm tails .
one of which is used a CNE conductor which is then split in the cut out housing to form a usual PME supply TNC-S.
i guess this was done by DNO or BNO .
is this safe and acceptable ?
If sleeving conductors at both ends, does it really matter which underlying conductor colour is being used for what?
Background is that I’m installing an electric boiler into a commercial building for a charity. The boiler is single phase, 12KW, 63 amps rated with 10mm conductors specified.
The...
Alright, so what do you think of these CPC sizes in relation to the phase conductors?
90*C insulation, TN-C-S supply
MCB / Live / CPC / Multiplier
15 - 2.08mm2 - 2.08mm2...
I'm looking at doing a CU change. Current main earthing and bonding conductors are both 6mm. Tails are 16mm on a 60/80 amp fuse (TNCS). ZE = 0.1 , 230v, single cable not bunched.
Looking at the regs (543.1.1) and applying the adiabatic equation (543.1.3), 6mm seems ok for main earthing...
Hi,
I am struggling to understand one concept if anyone could shed some light.
as TNCS has combined neutral and Cpc so if on the consumer side hypothetically if you check continuity on N+Cpc without disconnecting any conductor, do we get continuity of Neutral and CPC as on the supply side, its...
Hi all
Been in electrical/electronics for many years and am now semi retired but keeping my hand in, but is it just me, my age or what but back in the eighties / ninties nothing seemed to change that much and yes there was far less choice in fittings. Having spent more time in industrial than...
