Any of you good people using the fein multi tool. I admit to being sceptical. Does any one use them and are they a viable alternative to having a comprehensive hand and power tool collection. Any thoughts ? Kind regards all

I've got two CU's to quote for. Just got back from one. Absolutely no bonding to water or gas. First floor covered in laminated flooring. Kitchen all tiled and concrete floor.. No access to floorboards unless ripping laminate up. Told customer can't do anything unless I bond gas and water...

    Probably a stupid question.

Why doesnt T&E cable have Reference Method E (perforated cable tray) listed in table 4D5 (page 340 green)? Although table 4D2A does and says it's multicore cable with or without a CPC? What's the difference between this cable and T&E? Thanks in advance.

Probably "Too Little Too Late" but everybody should write to their MP.

Following advice elsewhere on this forum I just sent this email to my MP. Dear Conor Burns, Over the past two years I have built a two man electrical contracting business into a eleven person team by adding PV and other renewables to our installation fields. We sell ethically and have over...

Some (probably) stupid questions about my house rewire

Hi everyone (wave) Sorry if this is in the wrong section  I am currently having my house "done up" and the electrician has just told me he has finished the wiring and is requesting payment. Most of it looks OK (not that I would really know any different lol) but one of the girls I work...

socket outlet 50mm from edge of hobb but 350 mm high?

Is this permissable or could steam form on the socket face plate or on a cable plugged into the socket and run down to say the kettle or a toaster? I believe the regs recomend a min 300mm? The installation is split load and rcd protected. many thanks

Probably the simplest install you will ever do!

I have been following this forum for many weeks, and feel that this is the best place to get a professional pv installation quote. Here's my setup; Electrics- had a NICEIC inspection in 2008, with certificate .At the time a MEM 2000AD CU was fitted. It has two unused ways. All meters, etc are in...

    Disconnection time for distribution circuit

I'm looking at remedials from a PIR and one thing is a switch fuse with an 80 amp BS88 is serving a 16mm run of 2 core and armour SWA which serves 3 sub boards in 3 seperate outbuildings and they have been wired so they loop in and out at henley blocks until the final sub board. The total run is...

Multiple wires in MCB, what's the best way to record on PIR?

Anyone have any advice on entering test results for multiple wires from the same MCB. It's a 32a MCB with a ring final and a further 3 wires stuffed into it, all of them radials. I'm not sure of the best way to express this on the cert without it looking a bit cluttered and probably all the more...

    Smoke alarms for community hall

Hi, I've been asked if I want to quote for installing fire/smoke/heat alarms in a local community hall which has several rooms and quite a high "domed" ceiling in the main room. Having not done anything like this before would any members like to give me their thoughts/and/or guidance on such...

    RCD Tripping

Help needed please! RCD supplying three ring final circuits. Everything unpluged, turned off etc. Reset all MCB's and RCD. Then, on any of the circuits apply a load (different loads, kettle, tv etc) and the RCD trips? This is an existing install working fine untill now. I'm thinking the RCD...

    Probably a Dumb Question, BUT

After a couple of days of intensive cable calcs, diversity, max demand, etc. etc. etc. I have finally managed to disappear up my own jacksie! My head is officially in bits and for the life of me, I cannot get my box round one simple thing. If a 3 line motor is rated at 60 amps, what is the...

Probably broken every rule in the book

I’ve probably broken every rule in the book with this. Was asked if I could do a cable joint between a 6mm T+E and a 2c 6mm SWA. It had to be as unobtrusive as possible as I was on a front wall of a graded building. The T+E ran for 6” below the rendering corbel so the joint would be on the...
