So I was first fixing a bathroom yesterday and the plumber chap has drilled the holes in the ceiling - when I looked up one of the holes I could see that the hole cutter had "kissed" one joist and had just missed another (the house has had a loft conversion hence why the 2nd joist is so close to...

Hi,
I have got to split some more tails etc and pop a mini consumer unit in someone's meter cupboard.
I always put IP rated consumer units in, you know, just 2 way etc.
Is it really necessary or would you say putting a normal metal clad unit it would be ok? Its just this time I have got to...
There's an item on the One Show at the moment about Rated people and how their ratings aren't always what they seem.
It's nearly finished now, but you can still watch it on iplayer.
Or is it in the book (regs) ?
I was helping on a job today and paid particular attention to the fact that when the cutout fuse was 100a and the main switch was 100a we had to upgrade the size of the tails to 25mm
When it was 60a we didn't! Now I'm not 100% sure if the main switch was 100a 80a...

Hi all,
I have fitted an outdoor socket, drilled a 12mm hole through the brickwork & ran white 4mm 2C+E fp200 from the outdoor socket to inside the garage into a surface mounted 20A IP rated switch.
From the IP rated switch I have ran the cable to my smaller garage consumer unit & fitted it...
Hi there,

Which table do you use in BS7671 for volt drop for LSF Twin and Earth? There does not appear to be a table for LSF cable. 4D5 refers to the grey PVC cable and is not the right one to use for the white LSF. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Everyone
apologies for not posting in the DIY section but it's locked and not allowing new posts.
We've seen IP65 rated small decking LED lights at Wickes which we thought to use in the bathroom, set into the wall (skirting level). We hope to fit them under a wall hung sink and toilet and...
