Hi all
Done an EICR today and on one light circuit my zs tests was coming with error so got the 2 poor tester out, and I'm getting 50v between 230 l-n and 50v l-e
Checked all switches and light fittings Ect, nothing obvious, property 13 years old,
I've checked all downstairs and seems to...
Afternoon. Did a PIR on a TT installation yesterday with some confusing results.
Ze/RA was recorded as 116Ohms so as expected thereabouts. When Zs was tested it was found to be just 1.01 Ohms and 0.97 Ohms at a several points with just a few reading high as expected. As Zs = Ze+(R1+R2), it...
Friday I was getting continuity readings from my tester which start with a reasonable figure then drop off the scale to 0.00. This tended to occur more on the existing circuits rather than on new circuits. can someone shed any light on this?
Hi New to the Forum here.
I am a qualified Electrician however inexperienced due to spending 4 years in the army since finishing my apprenticeship. Trying my hardest to get back to the standard that I should be at. I have sat and passed the 17th edition but currently not got 2394/5. Plan to...
whlist testing a ring final socket circuit r1, rn and r2 end to9 end had all the same readings found a spur taken from the ring for an electric towel radiator remove the cpc from towel radiator and end to end test were spot on reconnect towel radiater and r2 end to end was reduced to virtulally...
Hi
i have a keen interest in my home electrics and diy, and have recently purchased some test equipment. I think the phrase is "all the gear and no idea" Anyway, I do actually know how to conduct the relevant tests but have no idea what readings are good or bad. Could somebody please advise me...
Hi all new to this so hopefully i can borrow some wisdom. I am currently carrying out a periodic inspection and testing of a commercial property. I have a db with 40 of the same circuits. The circuit is a 6mm radial to a junction box then a 2.5mm ring for 20 sockets. The circuit is wired in 6mm...
At the sub feeder panel I have a reading of 0.15 on L1 & L2 and on L3 a reading of 0.16 ohms at the start of the circuit off the 50A MCCB.
System in TN-S
At the CDP the reading is bouncing between the following
L1 0.6 to .88, L2 0.68 to 0.8 and L3 0.62 to 0.78 ohms. but remains at 0.15 at the...
Hi
I wired the first fix upstairs in a new house 2 years ago and am now returning to carry out the second fix.
On the lighting radial I have been using a fluke multi meter to check the resistance from ceiling rose to celing rose as I go along to check that all is good with the connecting 1.5mm...
Hi everyone
Apologies if this is a dim question.... I have just installed an exterior dusk till dawn lamp at home and all
was fine until I carried out the Zs test. I have a TN-S system with a Ze of 0.66ohms. The R1+R2 reading at the lamp was 0.58ohms. My Zs reading is however 2.88ohms. I tested...
After calibration of my loop tester,I am considering using a socket in the house for future calibration checks and to connect various low resistances in series with earth via a rotary switch to give a range of readings, and if so what value of resistors? Thanks for any advice...
Hi guys I've been doing a partial rewire. And I have taken a feed from a light that is fed, to feed a switch in a new extension. I wired up the lights and switch in the new extension but the light would not turn on. I measured the voltage at the light that's not powering up L-N and I'm only...

Hi all still feeling new to this game even after 5 years or so
Going through a test and having trouble with finding the max zs readings FOR bs3871 breakers
I know I can just multiply the old ones by 0.95, but was hoping someone had kindly already done a table with amended readings.
I also...
I have installed a new cooker supply to the new DB. The cable is a 10 mm T+E. It's on a 50 amp RCBO. (Big cooker!!) tested the cable and made put it in connector block and switched it on. I was getting 240v down live to earth which is correct but neutral to earth is was getting 40v. Then live to...

hi,
Popped round in laws house last night as they were having power loss issues. As I pulled up noticed the utility guys on their road hard at work sorting it out. So out of curiosity I thought I'd check the voltage readings as they had power but you could tell the voltage was low.
I was...
Hi All
So I've just extended two circuits and I've got home to type my results up for the certificate and I'm doubting my results, For the R1+R2 for the cooker circuit I got 0.02 ohms and for the ring I got 0.25 ohms, something seems a little off here.
Now by my calculations a 6mm cable should...
someone to probably point out the obvious please.
its a few years old and was last calibrated 2013. I have purchased the elecsa test card to avoid paying another £100.00 to calibrate, but i fear its now buggered.
testing on the low ohms range, seems to be all over the place.
join the leads...
Morning.
Recently went to a job with what is a glorified shed, although fully insulated plastered, water tight etc, with a db installed within the unit. Small ring main and four down lights. The SWA supplying the 'shed' running back to the garage, on a 40a mcb protected by a 63a 30ma rcd...
Hi peeps
I need an LED lux meter that can measure the full spectrum of light emitted. Any recommendations.
I also need to convince the 'buyer' and engineer as to why normal meters don't work.
Good solid advice please, with some links?
Hi everyone, I have a metrel instaltest that, when testing single phase voltage always returns a reading of 540 V on L1 L2 L3. This suggests an internal fault that it automatically thinks it's testing three phase somehow. Has anyone else experienced similar faults with Metrel gear? Thanks
