Hi I had a job last week I struggled with, I'm not clued up on motors like I should be but the problem I had was making a single phase cap start cap run motor reversible. All I was doing was replacing the motor but I want to understand exactly what needs to be done at the motor to allow it to be...
Hi all,
Unfortunately redundancy has reared its head in my direction.
I've decided now is the time to start up on my own, currently in the registering process with napit and am curious what can be done to get my name about other than handing out my cards to friends, family and whole salers...
Hi all
My name is Tom, this is my first post on here. I live in Suffolk & I am looking to begin my training for the C&G 2365 level 2 and 3 and have been let down by the training provider in Norwich. The course has been put back 5 months and I can not find any where local to start it in the...
Hi, been on the forum for a while this is my first post.
Sick of doing the same ----, dealing with the same people every day and making other people money.
Thinking of starting up on my own, I know it's a big risk. Am I stupid for giving up a job with a decent wage and steady income? Or is it...
Hello All, at the tender age of 33, I decided I would like a change of careers. So I quit my job and in May I start a four month full time training period at able skills. This will include Level 2 and 3 C&G and 17th Wiring regs and PAT course. I will then eventually complete 2394 and 2395 at...

My washing machine is buzzing which I thought the motor was f&&*Ed but thought to test the capacitor by giving the motor a push start.
Starts just fine after which confirms it for me.
Anyone know any sites for spare parts?
Part number is 11.126/856-324
Not sure if this is the start...
I've recently qualified and want to get myself set up with some new tools. I don't really fancy having some tools 110v and some 230v, if I can get away with it I'd prefer to have all 110v. However, I realise this isn't practical for domestic work as the transformer will probably take out the CB...

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about a career change to becoming an electrician.
I've found some courses at my local college and was wondering if it was worth me doing the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) course before any other? Or am i going in too deep with that straight away?
I have no...
Hello,
So here is my situation.
I am 27 years old and work for a major telecommunications company and have experience in the engineering side of things so have an idea that electrical engineering is something I'd enjoy BUT no qualifications or experience.
I've had enough of my boring office job...
Hi,
I've just mouse-proofed a victorian house internally, using steel wool to seal all possible gaps throughout the house.
However I've been advised this can be dangerous as any exposed electrical terminals can ignite steel wool and start it burning. I've tested this myself (9 volt battery and...
