Napit.. Do you still choose the job, or do they?

On the Napit certification page there is a little tick box, saying something along the lines of ' I consent to this job being used for my assessment '. Does this mean Napit makes its own choice, from that list, or do we still choose which job is used for the assessment?

Why are single gang boxes still made with 4 fixing lugs?

Hi all, I am an experienced DIY electrician and I just wanted to ask a quick question about something since I am new to this forum, if it hasn’t really been answered anywhere else. The question I have in mind is how come most electrical manufacturers still make single gang (25, 35mm etc) back...

So I have a outlet protected by a gfci breaker, and if you use the plug test the gfci doesn't trigger . I replaced the gfci breaker and the outlet still fails the test. The outlet seems to work otherwise. When i plug in the tester it shows all green, though during the gfci test it shows hot...

EICR, is amendment 2020 still valid?

I have had an EICR carried out by a NAPIT member, but I have noticed the certificate states ‘The inspection and testing detailed within this report and accompanying schedule has been carried out in accordance with BS 7671: 2018 amended to 2020’ Does this make my certificate invalid as I have...

There is still life in it.

We had some old rcd testers in the office so I bought them home to see if they still function. Tester 1 no trip, tester 2 no trip go to my consumer unit and hit the test button no trip, shock horror how long has it been like that. Today I performed surgery and fitted a new device and it lives on.

3 weeks later and the electrician still hasn't given me the EIC

Hi, I would like some advice. I had a full rewire done 3 weeks ago and I am still chasing the electrician to issue the EIC. The electrician is registered with Napit and he is also on the Competent Person register. I have emailed + called him up multiple times, but he keeps making excuses. What...

Attic fan redux. Sorry, but I still need advice...

I posted yesterday and then thought I had it figured so I edited post and thankfully, a moderator then deleted it. Light circuit off at consumer board - but RCD / RCCB still tripped

Hi I'm removing an extractor fan from our WC, as it's just a toilet and sink and we never use hot water in there anyway... The extractor is on the light circuit, but has it's own pull cord. I double checked by turning the fan and light on, then switching off the MCB. All good. I triple checked...

Electric heater blows up but circuit still works for fan.

My Lasko electric heater stopped working and I thought it just played out so I replaced it with another heater that worked fine for a while, but when I went back to check it was also not working. A fan is on the same circuit and has been that way for years, the fan still works fine. Is this...

UK Can you still apply to spark abroad if your Ecs and regs are out of date?

Hello all, I moved to China 6 years back for my wife’s work. Trades aren’t really a proper thing out here and there is nowhere to requalify and COVID has made it impossible to go home and re sit. I was wondering if I were to try and get work in another country, say Middle East or Canada, could...

UK Exceeding the max Ze in this situation still be considered to comply?

If the max Ze for Tncs is 0.35 but you had a 1361 60amp fused isolator before the c.u with the 1361 having a max Zs of 0.56 (from the 80% chart) if the recorded reading at the c.u was let’s say 0.47 ohms would that now be considered to comply? i can’t see why it wouldn’t.
