230-12v 600va transformer

upon removing a 230-12v 600va transformer from a large chandelier type light fitting (40x20w bulbs) and seeing the large, around 10mm cables from the secondary side of the transformer this got me thinking - if the is running at full capacity (600va) the current output on the secondary side would be around 50amps.

Now I know that the energy cunsumption at the 230 side is around 800w (just over 3 amps) but surely not really safe to have 50amls potentially in these fittings, particularly when the earth leads at these are 1mm at most?

It is not usual for one leg of the secondary of the transformer earthed, therefore the secondary has no reference to earth, in the event of a fault of one leg of the transformer to earth on the secondary side nothing will happen.

A 600VA transformer can't deliver vet much in the way of fault current

The full current is NOT in all fittings anyway
