Has anyone done NVQ 2357 portfolio with Ableskills? I'm just starting my portfolio bridge units 311 312 313 314 315 316 317 and 318 but really struggling how to start. It's really hard to understand the concepts of how they put their wording. My assessor doesn't explain it really well :( please please! much of appreciated getting any helps from you guys.

You should have task sheets for each unit. This is where you make reference to each units tasks i.e. as to where the evidence is. Really the first thing to do is get the evidence whether it is WEEE certificates or photos of jobs or expert witness sign off on each task, put it in clear wallets and number them. Get a divider for each unit and put the reference on the task sheet. So Unit one would be all under your first divider (say No. 1) and each subsection would be (say) 1: 1.1 then 1.2 and so on then onto the next unit i.e. 2. and same again. You will find on the task sheets that many tasks are repeated. Such as show safe isolation. So if you put this in say, Unit 1, wherever it is required in any other unit you refer to that one original reference. If there are tasks you cannot get to do, you tutor can have professional discussions with you to cover them. For instance many course students have problems with the 506 unit requiring dealing with faults such as overcurrent undercurrent L-E faults as they do not normally get to work on that kind of thing. Professional discussion can cover this. The practical should cover one whole unit, ask your tutor which one. You should get portfolio guidance sitting down with your tutor as part of the course and you must insist on this. Also you should be able to cover a number of task with some on-site visits to work you have done. I hope that is of some help to you.
Bottom line is you do not have to complete every last task where it is repeated elsewhere ! just reference the original one for everytime that task arises. As I say safe isolation comes up in every unit just about so you only give evidence for that once or twice depending on what the course criteria is. So just say every time 1:2.2 or whatever ref. you work out. It is a complet B***s ache but no way round it. The main thing is whatever you are doing get pictures for evidence write up tasks you are doing and get it signed by the competent person asking you to do it. Dont waste a single opportunity.
