To energise the coil i need to get 400v to pull contactor in, so need to use 2 phases? Does any body have a simple wiring diagram etc to explain a switch putting power to the coil. Thanks

Are you planning on using a 400v control circuit with remote stop/start pushbuttons,
or are you using a low voltage control circuit with a switching relay to energise the contactor?

.

Like so if you just want simple on / off switch :

Personally I believe if you need to ask the question, its advisable to stay well clear of 400V control circuits, perhaps replace the coil with a lower voltage version.

Obviously you need to provide adequate protection!
