Hi everyone

was just wondering how much money people spend on advertising and how much work they receive from the advertising?

ive been on my own for about two years and 90% of my work is word of mouth, I have an ad in yell and get the odd call from it.

also with websites do you pay for seo or do you do it yourself?

thanks

Seo is a waste of money and having a website brings in more calls and more dross.

that said not not having a website is not an option imho

What about your advertising costs?

it tried google for a while but seemed to get calls from people who tried changing their light fitting then messed it up, so got rid of it!

ive read having a blog helps your website with its Google ranking, can anyone confirm this?

yes having a blog helps as you are constantly updating it which google likes and helps your ranking.

My advertising spend for the last 5 years (other than a couple of ads supporting quite big for me commercial jobs) is nothing. All word of mouth and repeat custom.

From Website I get a good few calls - these are fine, and quite a few emails - these generally aren't and I find if I'm quoting a job I'll be quoting against many many others for cheapest price. Wordpress is very handy and very easy to work with, and the search engines like it.

Also have a facebook page, but toying with deleting that as it seems to be a total race to the bottom. The DIYists and others take it right down...USB socket supplied and fitted for £15 quid...Immersion Heater Run back timer supplied and fitted for £25. Labour costs may be lower over here but I ain't getting out of bed for that.
