Noods

Hi...

I purchased this circular saw bench locally for a good price and while it works great the switch on it has worried/annoyed me from the off and wanted to replace it ASAP ..

Hopefully you can see it's a two pin socket connection into this on off switch.. I would like to replace it with an up to date switch and fit a seperate in line kill switch as well as I have a couple of other electrical tools which I plan to put together all in the one workbench so to speak... I've tried to show a pic of the plate details but it was dark and so not great..

Sorry this is going to be difficult as the thread does not seem to load my pics although it tells me successfully loaded? Ahggh

Any advice would as always be appreciated, thank you..

It appears to be a no-volt release type with a separate thermal circuit breaker. I cannot see why you consider it not 'up to date' or want to replace it, if it is functioning correctly. An industrial type of starter will probably have a longer service life but this has been tested and approved with the rest of the tool and modifications would put the onus on you to ensure equivalent safety.

Do you have an objection to the inlet connector, which you describe as '2-pin'? This is the European standard Schuko connector which is properly earthed and electrically equivalent to a 3-pin type, just with the earthing going via the side contacts instead of a third pin. The matching inline earthed socket is widely available.

Thanks for your kind advice.. The white round plug in power lead has two pins.. So I presume the third connection in the socket earths it out yes? Anyway it's always been loose and now the switch appears to be faulty as its stopped working.. I don't know iff there's a way I can test it? I've a multimetre! That's really why I thought best to update it as its no longer working it seems..

I'm with Lucien on this.
Ok.. I will see iff I can find out what is stopping it from working then.. As I said it was fine but it runs my saw bench and I had a piece of wood jam which cut the motor out, checked the plug fuse and that was fine.. I just thought the connection lead into the socket was a poor design very loose etc so I assumed it was better to replace it with an update but now I know it's as it should be I will try and sort it... Any advice would be appreciated as always.. Thank you..

Is there an overload module in the saw control gear. My bet is if you've had the saw jam, the overload has tripped, stopping the saw from functioning until it has been reset.
I did have a quick look but didn't see anything obv.. It will be like a push in reset button I guess or similar... Thanks Rob..

Surely it's the small red button next to the start button? That looks like a thermal breaker in series with the incoming supply.
