Called out to a shower not working, dropped the switch and found this. That 1.5 neutral was connected into the switch terminal supply side neutral then off to a timer fan.

Found the fault to be the switch has burnt out.

Anyway it's turned into an extra bit of work for me, customer wants me to redo it all :)

Where was the complete fan supply taken from?

looks like they wired fan from light switch and, having no N at the switch, pinched one from the shower switch.

Was beginning to wonder, couldn't get my head around what the OP said abound the fault being a shower problem and a 1.5 N was found in the shower switch, what you say tallies though makes sense now. Naughty.

Yes the N of the fan was taken from the shower switch.
L of the fan taken from the bathroom light switch.
sL of the fan taken from the bathroom light switch.
That clears it up thanks mate.
yes sorry pete, I should have been more clear.
Not to worry, it was a bit confusing got my head around it in the long run, with some help from Tel

was clear to me. pete, your slipping in your dotage. i recommend a bottle of beaujolais nouveau ( vintage, of course ). :)

Had a funny one similar to this except the entire fan wiring was straight to the shower pull switch, the permanent live was in with the live in and both switched live and neutral were on the load side. I went to change the shower which had packed in, turned off pull switch and was very surprised to find mains voltage between neutral and earth at the shower terminals......
