feeling slightly horrified by some of the information and stories I've read regarding these guys, having had the "sales" meeting thought I would do some background checking to see if they are even slightly legit.

Funny thing is most of the bad reviews I've seen are from 2014/15 and don't add up with what I was told about how the course would work. So much wiser sparky's I'm seeking your wisdom

Firstly I tried the College/Night school, Apprenticeship route already and got full blown rejected due to medical complications (long story, been working 6 years without problems and could do so if GP would stop trying to just force feed meds :90: anyway off topic)

They seem to have pitched the course very differently to me than those who have had bad experience's have mentioned.

Here is the gist,

within 12-18 months I will have the required theory and basic knowledge to work as an Electricians Mate, and complete minor additions to existing electrical works and sign-off without calling in another electrician to do so.

With

  • BPEC Part P Defined Scope
  • C&G 2382
  • Part P Full Scope
  • C&G 2392
  • C&G 2365 - Units 201/501-, 202, 203, 204, 210

Then it would take a further 1/2 years to complete the Level 3 NVQ's

but in no way did they attempt to make out this was a fast-track to £1200 a week kind of deal, and they also encouraged me to attempt to find an employer ASAP (for a trainee role) as that is the only way to gain the real experience necessary to do the Level 3 NVQ's and to be taken seriously as a Electrician.

I'm still in the cooling off period until Monday and yes I already know its a ridiculous amount compared to college, but coming from an IT with combined HSE Quals it cost me around 4-6K every couple of years to upgrade anyway plus already attempted that (see above)

P.s. more digging around the BBC watchdogs investigation & Company/Director history for up to 2014 is terrifying (mother works as Fraud Analyst so she passed some wisdom along) but things seem to have changed since then. I even found some plumbers who went via these guys sub-companies and did manage to get on well.

so bottom line, even given the more realistic view given of the course and the way it is set out have I still been completely taken for a ride? or Has new management actually done a massive turnaround with these guys?

Hoping for a pleasant surprise,
Nary

There's not many reasons to be rejected by college, if they feel that you're not capable of completing a course (if you saw my class you'd realise they're quite generous......) it would call into question why would you want to be an electrician? I do not mean any offence by this, however, some people you would wonder how they got to college, never mind sit through a lesson!

Hi Notorius. Was colour blindness the reasoning why you were rejected by college?

No not at all :) Passed all the aptitude tests, Eyesight tests etc. with flying colours (I applied with JTL on the apprenticeship side) , main reasoning behind the rejection was the definition of my medical condition at present, like I said another essay in itself. It boils down to me being classed as a risk to other people (despite contracting for the last half a decade) the diagnosis I've been told is wrong by another GP but waiting on a specialist at the local Hosp to confirm it. Its a load of codswallop :hammer:

Hence going down the route of a training scheme like TG, gives me a while to get that cleared up because even they raised an eyebrow at first due to the on-site sections.

Yeah my reply to TJ's post clears that one up, As for why become an electrician, it was my original plan back before I left school suffice to say I was a rather rebellious teen :winkiss: and long story cut short I picked up the Hardware/Server side and the pay drew me like a moth to a flame. Now with a newborn and getting frustrated with IT becoming a very office based role I decided to re-visit the idea.

Most of my family and their friends all trained as apprentices so I was always helping out DIY jobs around the house (nothing major Spurs and the odd new Ring) and got their input. I love getting hands on so I was concerned that the theory side would drain me but so far into the 1st Workbook its actually interesting and delivered that way to boot.

Money stopped being a motivation when little one arrived, as long as the bills get paid and your happy what else matters at the end of the day.
