I've become anesthetised to questioners on Voltimum seeking a black or white answer being given a grey vague answer because the Expert is sat more firmly on the fence than a Liberal Demorcrat MP. However, sometimes they just get it wrong, today's Q&A of the day on Voltimum 'answered' (NOT) by Select is just such an example. Firstly the question is not answered, the questioner is merely directed to two C&G website pages with no explanation. Secondly the questioner seeks clarification between 2391, 2392 and 2391-10 and in the answer is directed to information about 2391-10 and 2391-20(?). If the questioner was confused before the answer, he certainly ought to be confused and frustrated afterwards.

Catch it quick, because once I put it on here it will become common knowledge and likely to be quickly edited.

It's Margaret here from Voltimum here. I am sorry to read your comment and will check this out as soon as I can get hold of our Editor James Hunt and the experts in question in Select. If the answer is wrong I apologise on behalf of the expert in question and yes, your are right, we will correct it straight away.

The experts on Voltimum are all from reputable organisations and answer many technical questions every day. They provide this service free of charge to the industry and, in the main, I think this is appreciated by many electricians and specifiers. We usually get very positive feedback from Voltimum users in any case.

It's never nice to have something negative said about you, particularly in public, but feedback of any sort is always really valuable and we try to use it to improve things. In Voltimum we are very passionate about our portal and about our users so if you or any of the other people reading this article would like to get in touch we me to suggest what we could be doing better then please email me directly [email protected]. In the meantime, sorry if the Q&A of the day is not correct and we will get on to it straight away.

By the way, what are you doing writing emails in the middle of the night?!

And here's me thinking the the electrical industry runs 24/7. Don't people realise what a shift system is and there is a shift called a nightshift
 
Margaret I take it you are a subscriber to this forum ? and if this is the case can I request any other interested parties declare likewise as this is a open and free forum.

I did think, as I was editing this Q&A, that - unusually - SELECT had not answered the question directly. I say 'unusually' because SELECT is the best in terms of response at replying to the Q&A of all our Partners. However, I considered that the suggestion to use the C&G links for information would be more than sufficient - after all, these links provide far more information than we could put into a Q&A. I did check that the links worked, which they did. I hadn't noticed the '20' rather than '10' designation. Perhaps I should have.



I've now put this right.

So, in my opinion, on this occasion, SELECT did at least attempt to find a solution of which I approve. However, a mistake with the link does appear to have been made (which, as I say, I've now corrected). I shall also draw your comment to SELECT's attention. I hope this answers your question. Many thanks for the feedback!

Hi James, welcome to the forum. Many thanks for your reply. It's reassuring that you have corrected the error, however I do think a more human answer to the original question might have been more appropriate. All that was needed was a single paragraph clarifying the differences between 2391 and 2392, and whether these have been replaced by 2391-10. Encouragement and reassurance of the questioner in relation to the difficulty of 2391-10 would also have been more sympathetic than the anodyne redirection.

Thanks for your response. I actually agree with you in general, albeit with the provisors I made in my earlier reply to your complaint. Generally, our (very busy) panel of Experts respond very promptly and correctly to Voltimum users' Q&As. As part of my work, I have to choose a suitable Q&A every day, edit it, add photo etc and load it each morning. Occasionally, there is an error, which I and our Experts always try to avoid.
