by new units do you mean them metres and centipedes. they confuse the fu@k out of me.

your dad is bang on. yards, tons, fortnights, sod metres, kellogs, seconds.

only concession i ever made to metric is weighing the pups at birth. too small for proper weights. had to weigh them in grammes.

40 poles = 1 furlong
4 poles = 1 chain
5.5 yards = 1 pole
8 furlongs = 1 mile.
10 chains = 1 furlong
6 feet = 1 fathom
15 fathoms = 1 shackle.

and.... 3 barleycorns = 1 inch

and, just out of interest. ther's 240 pence in a £1
How do they all fit in?! :D

If you listen carefully you can hear my mind being blown.
I don't get how you remember all them.
With centipedes it's to the power of 10.

Not saying you should use meters just makes more sense to me; then again vise virsa.

Feel like my world's been turned upside down with all these units being used I had no idea existed:D

That was back when money & measurements were done in real units, not the sissy metric system we have now.:) Gotta say: Tel's memory is way better than mine.

@doody.because in them days a £1 was worth a £1.
for £1 you could get 20 loaves of sliced bread or 20 pints of milk or 4 gallons of 4 star petrol.

Were you referring to 1/2pences and shillings and all the other malarky or inflation.
Don't get started on old currency! I'm still trying to wrap my head around furlongs, yards, poles and shackles!
Don't think my brain can take anymore:D

Would love to be a fly on the wall if you did that, they'd probably have you certified. Now that would be a waste of a promissing spark ;)
Bloke at my local screw fix quotes the price as "one thousand and etc... pennies please" throws me off everytime. Stood there like

Fully expect the older bloke at my wholesalers to be like "ah 100M of course" :D

It's a terrible thing, but I still find myself working in Imperial & then converting to metric sometimes

I have had a Makita LD060P, bought 8 years ago. Now replaced by other models. Checked to be good to around 1mm against a tape. Very accurate and consistent, and doesn't suffer from droop, unlike a tape.
