Discuss boiler cross bonding in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

As with all bonding you need to carry out testing to ascertain whether the pipes are:
A- already in effective contact with earth.
B- extraneous/otherwise in need of bonding.
C- isolated from earth.

If A or B then no bonding required, if B then bonding is required.

Generally you will get good continuity between all pipes due to the metalwork of the boiler, but if in doubt then test it.

Thanks Pete999. I am aware that extraneous parts such as gas/oil/water need bonding. But in simple terms, provided this is done then we no longer need to cross bond all pipes at boiler as before 17th edition, correct?

I've answered this once already, you need to test the pipes to establish whether or not they need bonding.

There has never been any requirement to 'cross bond' at a boiler and there isnt now. All based on a myth which refuses to die. Main bonding of ECP's at point of entry and supplementary bonding if required in special locations.....nothing else.

Cross bonding, is the main bonding at points of entry of a premises, or as near as practical. The bonding is reqd irrespective of plastic incomers.

Some myths are quite are interesting, some quite amusing, others are just boring because they keep on raising their ugly head.

How Fatha, Aam canny ye knaa. Ye n me stepma aareet?

well I had a relapse earlier in the week and the vet gave me more meds and yesterday I was a lot better.

Tidyboiler came over yesterday afternoon & we had good curry and she stayed over until teatime today. Before she left I went with her shopping at Sainsburys and managed to drive there and back in the MR2 and walk all around the place without my walking stick and wasn't too tired when we came back home so that was a big improvement so I've had a truly great day, thanks. :)
