CCU Tails do I need to RCD

Ok I have a CCU change, the meter is in a outside cupboard and the tails pass straight though the wall.....but not horizontal or vertically run in the building fabric, do I need to RCD these tails my gut says yes.

Btw they are not in any trunking/conduit just sitting on brick

Ducksy, I would look to give them mech protection if this is possible/feasible - just don't feel comfortable with cables in/through brick/block cavities. Others may hold different views.

A few meters of big SWA is not much more expensive and much better than running unprotected tails into a wall imo

That is fine, do they run up or across ? If its straight from meter cupboard to con unit through wall it's ok

I have no idea what saying here, unless your talking about the tails run in the cavity?? If your talking about a couple of metres or so within a cavity, i really can't see a problem so long as they are insulated/sheathed tails!! What are you wanting to protect them against, ...the wall falling down?? lol!!

Are you planning on upgrading the tails as part of the board change? Is it necessary to do so? i.e. Are you adding more load to the system that would necessitate larger tails?

I'm also not sure what you mean by not run horizontally or vertically, as that only leaves diagonally as a possibility??

i think he meansthey pass straight through the wall and don't run horiz. or verty. in the plaster ( <50mm deep) in which case there's no need for RCD protection.

Lol what are people finding hard to understand? The meter is on the same wall as the db but on the outside wall...... So the tails are passing through the cavity into the back of the board. They don't need protection aslong as there double insulated

If you are reusing the existing tails you are not responsible for the installation method IMHO so leave as is.

Meter tails in cavity may need protection from cavity wall insulation, depending on the type used. Short section of plastic conduit?
