Bosch SDS 36 volt battery drill with a chiesel bit for me, easy peesy.

The 'short' chisel bit, much easier to control.

on recent jobs i cut outline for a box with oscillating multicutter with diamond tile blade. like 5mm deep, helps to control damage to the plasterwork around no big pieces come off. if its a crap wall or crumbly lath then even deeper.
its much better than a chase machine when comes to dust and precision.
dig out the rest with bosch mains sds with a short and wide chisel.

when done stick the box in with a blob of bonding coat mixed with cement. fix with some red plugs and screws an hour later.

Unless it's 14 Newton concrete block I've never had a problem using a box cutter/sinker. Really quick and just add £30/40 on the price of the rewire for a new cutter,Can't beat it IMO.

i doubt they would work on concrete blocks/hard brick
