When we get a chance in the coming weeks we'll be clearing up a few of the large threads, and some of the recent(ish) threads. So if you've gone off topic in them or replied to something that is off topic, you might have your post edited or removed fully. Don't worry about this, it's not bad news. In fact quite the opposite. We're trying to make the place much more appealing and this is just one of the things on our to-do list.

When we do edit your thread/post, you'll automatically get a PM about it. Just ignore it for now.

Clearly in a thread you've replied to quite a bit, you could get a number of PM's that look the same. Don't be alarmed. Just delete them so your inbox doesn't get clogged up.

Thanks for helping keep the forum running smooth people. :)

The PM's are to let the users know that their posts have been moderated. This will hopefully negate the need for threads being started asking why posts have been removed or edited.

They're automatic PM's. Which is to help keep the post editing transparent in due course. But I've enabled the feature BEFORE we've started to clear up threads. Perhaps not wise. But I wanted to address a couple of concerns by regulars while at the same time addressing the actual problem with threads going off topic. So you'll get a load of PM's if you've gone off-topic a lot.

Wouldn't a announcement next time everyone comes online and has to acknowledge be better rather than clogging up in boxes?

No because they're individual auto-PM's addressing each individual post edit or removal. Or even if we move a thread posted in the wrong forum to the correct forum, you'll get a link with the new location etc.

Really good PM system to have. All automated.

Perhaps wrong timing by me.

Oh daaaaym .... looks like I'll have to clear my inbox to make room for them or build an extension onto it and then there's the problem of how to get power to the light in the extension and do I need an RCD for it and do I have to export the earth and bond the aluminium window frames?

^^^ you'll get a pm about that... ;)

On a related point (not off topic at all) the standard personal message limit of 30 seems a bit measly. Would it really break the bank/HDD to increase this a bit? Say to 100? :)

Something has totally gone amiss as instead of getting PM you get an email saying some one has quoted your posting which is annoying me, one thing I cannot complain about is that since the site went ---- up when I can make a comment without letters disapppearing

That is the swear filter, always had it, always will have it. Nothing new there!

The e-mails for the new "reply with quote" notifications is something I'm looking into due to a few members not liking it.

as a sub note.... STOP BLOODY SHOUTING ABOUT IT. I HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME!

I also want the pop up/down (what ever you want to call it) switched off.
Now, let me get this straight. Before I comment I will happily hold my hands up to being one of the worst culprits (alang wi me Fatha)for hijacking threads where the OP has done a runner and taking it off topic / and generally having a laugh at someone else's expense. (It's usually repaid in spades by the lads so, karma) However, normal conversation rarely stays on the one topic for long. It evolves and grows as people join the conversation or raise a relevant point but what you're saying is that that is no longer allowed?
