Cut out fuse

Hi,

I've been to a property with an old style 3036 cut out, and have contacted the DNO to update this under maintenance. They are saying they that they will charge between £500-700 to update with a 60 amp cut out.

Seems extreme to me. Has anyone else heard of DNO charging this amount for what should be maintenance of their equipment, and straight forward job.

When I mentioned they had a duty to keep equipment in good state and fit for continued use. They responded saying if I want a 40 amp cut out they will do it for free (like for like swap), but not a 60 amp cut out. Any advice on how to get the better of them would be welcome.

Depends on the size of the cable supplying the house, this may need upgrading to a larger one if you're looking for more load, if not then a standard cutout change should be free and tr upgrade in fuse size should be gratis too

i was under the impression that these old cast iron cutouts were being replaced..free of charge....now then...it may be a cable issue...but come on...a 2 bed house will struggle to pull 60A..a 3 bed may just touch it..but....
the bottom line here is these cutouts are DNO property....and as such its their responsibility to maintain it....together with any PME arrangements here..as no doubt that will be the next thing they try to shirk out of....

have you not asked the client how many appliances/connected loads they have on at once...say at the busiest times of their day...so that would presumably be teetime...and maybe a weekend....sunday dinner?....so do a max. demand ..you can use a current clamp for this....see what is actualy being pulled by this property.....

Yep cast irons should be changed free, just ask for the cutout to be changed more than likely the lads that replace it will drop you a 60 or 80a in

this is sounding more like a ploy to snake cash out of someone.....as in " we`ll happily come out and replace the old cutout for ya for nowt....but you only get a 40A bullit with that package...so if you want to `upgrade` to a 60A..get ready"...lol....its like buying train tickets or summat....as in "yes i`ll have the first class seat with club sandwich"...lol...

Without knowing the whole story I don't think we can judge too harshly, there are however very few service cables that won't take 60a. Our smallest are 0.02" or just under 13mm in metric which should be good for 60a as it's laid direct in the ground.

I'm not au fait with other DNOs though
