EICR advice

Good evening everyone!

Finally created my own account after scrolling through the forum for the past couple of years (great site).

Right, down to the actual situation I have...
I have just started my own business which I am currently starting to run alongside my full time employment.

Now starting to get all my insurances sorted ect.

Phoned up NICEIC earlier today to enquire about the domestic installer thing and on conversation, with a very helpful woman I must say, I was told I wouldn't be able to complete EICR's under the domestic scheme. I never knew this. I Just want to know if anyone can tell me why and whether the other schemes are the same? I'm aiming to target commercial and industrial work, but obviously I need 12 months before I can become approved so the domestic stuff will help get some work behind me.

Any other business advice for a newbie is also greatly appreciated!

You don't need to be part of a CPS to conduct EICR's. You could become NICEIC DI to notify work and just carry out EICR's on model forms without the NICEIC logo. Some insurance companies etc specify NICEIC AC though.

You also need as much relevant experience as possible and an in depth understanding of your job and the regulations surrounding it, especially as you are targeting industrial and commercial customers. Professional indemnity insurance is a must too.

A good bit of business advice would be to join Stroma and save yourself £228. May be a contentious comment but consider how much work is actually notifiable and how many notifications you intend to undertake, some may argue that NICEIC is more established but all schemes effectively do the same thing.

That's definitely cleared it up more for me. I had read about needing the indemnity insurance when carrying out eicr's so will include that with my insurance.

Now going to have a browse of the stroma website.

Maybe you could autofilter the word "scam" to be replaced by "Competent persons scheme that definitely doesn't facilitate driving down standards of skill nor seeks to exploit and deceive tradesmen and the public"

Under common law, to constitute defamation, a claim must generally be false?
