I would be investigating adaptors for cooker hoods
Well that's basically what it is as it's almost over a cooker. But why would someone fit a 6 inch fan when there's only a 4 inch vent? Mind you I replaced the fan with another 6 inch one as I assumed the vent was 6 inch too.. and so it goes on. Heaven knows where it's being vented to.. I could find no sign of an external outlet.

I recently used a reducer from Electricfix, I can't see a 150mm to 100mm, but are these two in series any use?
150mm to 120mm
Round Reducer White 150-120mm - http://www.screwflix..com/p/round-reducer-white-150-120mm/33275
125mm to 100mm
Manrose Round Central Reducer White 125-100mm - http://www.screwflix..com/p/manrose-round-central-reducer-white-125-100mm/10684

At £1.34 each worth investigating?

I would be looking at fitting a centrifugal fan with 4 inch outlet( recessed would look better) I assume that a 6 inch axel fan was there before did it bun out due to resistance of ducting ?. You need to find out where the ducting is exhausting to. It is no good ducting into the joist space between ground and 1st floor. This reminds me of my old boss on some 3 story houses telling the electrician to grip fill fan grills onto the outside walls by leaning out of the bathroom window instead of hiring tower.

No it didn't burn out, it was just the auto shutter was defunct really and it was required to change switching from manual to lightswitch..
I ordered a replacement axial fan but wasn't aware of the vent issue..
There is a trussed roof perpendicular to the wall and I'm assuming it vents into that rather than just into ceiling void. I've made landlord aware but unless wants to spend money on investigation then there's not a lot I can do..

Thanks for the info.. could be useful. I didn't think they did a 6" to 4" one..

A axel fan can only be used for through wall or short length of flexible ducting if not the fan becomes less efficient and the resistance is not good for the fan especially reducing from 6 inch to 4.

Agreed. but that depends on length of duct surely?
I have a feeling the length of duct is quite short, a couple metres at most as the roof void is only a metre away. I suppose the correct thing to do would have been to investigate the roof void, to see if that where it goes but there's nobody there and how to access the roof void is another issue as it adjoins another property..
There's no room for a centrifugal fan anywhere else..
