iv just done my first ever CU board change. I had a qualified electrician with me. Now its all in and tested I want to tidy the terminations up abit and dress it up more. I was thinking of doing ferrule crimp/bootlace the conductors but im unsure if its bad practice to ferrule/bootlace solid conductors as apposed to stranded?

Also are the ratchet type crimpers better used?

Do you think it offers an advantage to fit ferrules to the solid cores? Also, bear in mind it adds another connection which is a potential weak point unless done correctly. Daz

There is no need to ferrule a solid conductor. They are not designed for such a task anyway. It would only offer the same strength of termination as a single solid conductor under a screw terminal. This would obviously not be as good as a properly doubled over and positioned solid conductor.
If you are thinking of aesthetics over mechanical and electrical soundness then you thinking about the job back to front.

No. Mechanical and safety comes first!
