Hi Folks,

This is my first post so I hope I am using the correct forum.

I have a Newworld gas cooker. It has a 3 amp supply for a press and hold ignition button.
the appliance according to its hand book is Class one freestanding.

I use a Batt-Pat and my question to you is, Should I do a metal or plastic class one test?

Tech Services for Newworld told me that "as it is a gas cooker it does not require PAT testing"

I do not believe them!

Cheers,
AK :smile5:

i suppose you could perform an insulation test and an earth bond test. i'd be wary of operating the igniter when connected to your tester. a few thousand volts go to earth from the piezo.

What is a batt pat? It sounds suspiciously like a battery powered pat tester, in which case it is almost certainly incapable of testing this appliance acceptably as it is unlikely to be ab,e to do a high current bond test.
Also this appliance is not portable and so a pat test is not appropriate, a fixed appliance test is what is required for a fixed appliance.

just stick your head in the oven for a while.if you survive, bung a pass sticker on it.

I'd be inclined to believe Newworld's opinion rather than yours.

Is a gas cooker portable?

Common myth, anyone who had bothered to ever read the IET code of practice in the last several years would know that its way more than 'portable' items that are covered.

Whilst a high current test is often preferable the code of practice does not specifically require that one is done, a soft 200ma test is also acceptable according to the IET for some reason.

What a heap of junk!
150mA Earth bond test, no substitute leakage test, only 350V IR test, no load or leakage test!

They seem to target people with no experience also for this item, small business, charities etc - personally I dont think mixing low end equipment with people who may not have a clue is a good idea.
