Here is a little teaser for Saturday night.....this unit stopped being used around the early 1980`s, but had a good run since the 1960`s......found one today on a job....Should be an easy one for the oldtimers...

easy peasy. fitted loads of them in the early 80's.

if i'm no tmistaken, the box is a munford & white, later to become tunstall, then menvier.

Never seen one before but it has an 8 track cartridge so must either be recording or playback.
The supply is labelled fire alarm, I can't think of any common reason to have an audio recording device connected to a fire alarm so I'd say it must be playback.
I cant see any telephone cables so probably not anything to do with an autodialler message.
So my guess has to be a voice alarm/automatic evacuation instruction

Well that's a blast from the past fitted quite a few of them and taken quite a few out.

Is the tape still intact and the message still clear and audible, that was the biggest problem with those units

The mayford centre furnace building sounds rather familiar!
I did a bit of work with a company who had a unit in there for a while, we were next door to the drum workshop,
Still pop in there occasionally to visit bunnies.

Your spot on Dave, just completing a full 4 panel 8 loop networked fire alarm system at Mayford Woking
And have seen the drum shop unit, very impressive kits
