hi

went round a customers house for cctv quote. they want 4 cameras, 2 in front and 2 in the back.
the issue is that the house has just recently been refurbished (all work has now finished) and they want all cables hidden and for the nvr (camera recording box) to be in a room in the middle of the house. i was hoping for some suggestions on how others would go about this?

thanks

More info required. Type of house, position of cameras on house. Can you route cables under floor boards, in walls?

It's a 3 bed semi, the cameras are to going one on the left and one on the right (at the front and at the back)

I was thinking of running the wiring outside in conduit and then bringing them in at one point or using trunking inside but i'm not sure if they would be too happy about that.

Specialist part of the forum for CCTV and you'll get some experience folk there. You could be the knight in shining armour to these clients. All the best for the quote.

use a magic wand :D
I had a boss who came up with gems like this and actually made a wand from 1/2 dowel and every time he hit me with a stupid late suggestion or demand I got out my wand, no longer needed £5:00 plus postage for any future electrical magician. If I can find it that is.

I have cameras fitted to underside of soffits with cables going direct into loft where recorder is with network cable then going to router. My house is chalet bungalow style though.
If I were you, I'd give the punters a number of options and let them decide. You can then price accordingly.

Go for a POE system and run the Cat 6 next to the carpet gripper. Mounting cameras too high will result with you getting the tops of peoples heads. I always try to put the recorder in the loft covered with a cardboard box, if they get broken into the first thing which will get nicked is the recorder!

Mine is in the loft too. It has a camera pointed at it that is set to email me on motion detection, so if it does get nicked I'll have footage of them doing it at least. But that's derailing the thread

haha, if only, they want the recorder in the 'designated av room' which is conveniently situated in the middle of the house on the ground floor

Why are they so keen to have it in this room, im asumming they would want remote viewing access so why need the nvr there.? And as stated by others box would be much safer hidden i attic. Good luck with it.

i think the reason is because they have all the other boxes in there (sky, home entertainment, etc).
but as others have suggested i'll probably have to discuss alternative options as having the box in there is going to be a lot of unnecessary effort (unless they want to pay extra ;))

"Hello hightower & rolyberkin",

How do You playback CCTV video on your Monitor / TV using the DVR remote control or use the remote control to do other things on the CCTV DVR ?

My CCTV DVR is controlled by a remote control for playing back CCTV video / downloading CCTV video files / setting the Time etc. so it has to be accessible to the TV while using the remote control to do those various things.

I know that there are IR `Sender` units available for use with Sky boxes etc. but I have never given them any thought for remote controlling my CCTV DVR - for example allowing me to locate it in the Loft ?

Regards,

Chris
