We have a client who has just had an Display Energy Certificate completed for a community building. I am about to advise that it should have been an Energy Performance Certificate for Feed in Tariff purposes. Is that right or can business and community centres use a Display Energy Certificates instead?

I would talk to the energy provider they will claim the FIT from, they will be able to tell you for sure...well, here's hoping.

I nearly had an argument with a lady at npower yesterday who was telling me that if i Googled 'EPC' update I would be able to find the document telling me what exemptions had been agreed for properties that couldn't get an EPC... not in my world love!

I would argue the same point but on the DECC website it keeps referring to EPC. Whats the betting energy suppliers won't know the difference between a DEC and an EPC?

Is there any reasoning behind it having to be an EPC? as all buildings over 1000 square metres need a DEC not an EPC. So it means despite a building having an DEC rating of C for example they will need to fork out for an EPC to be done. Seems daft to me

DECs and EPCs are not the same. An EPC is based on how a building is constructed but a DEC is based on actual energy use.

Personally I think DECs are the right one to use, but they do not apply to domestic or smaller commercial properties so DECC had to chose EPC and apply the requirement to all buildings.

In that case why can't they apply DEC to non domestic properties and EPCs to domestic properties?.....
