LED grow-lighting

well, i am sure you have all seen theese "new" LED growlight systems - well i want to build one! (this is actually NOT going to be for illegal purposes though - just want to test the idea out on some various vegetables/fruit.

So saying that i want to get 3 spectrums of light - some green - some blue and some red, but i want to be able to control what type of light comes on and i also would like to be able to mix the lights also (red + green/ blue + red etc etc etc.....)

I want the green light as some experiments have said how lettuce grown under them went more black than green yet tasted the same. i dont want black lettuce.

Now.... here is the tricky part - i have no idea what i need! - i only ever rigged up an LED to be a clowns nose in school!

So first i would need to find out what i will be needing - i wanted a setup to be 50cm by 100cm - now i dont know if it will be better to have 2 panals at 50x50cm (as the amount of LED's i want to use may be to much for one plug?) or just 1 big panal?

i think there are going to be around 500/600 LED's in this (400 red,125 blue and 75 green) - this is just a preliminary guess.

So.. all your expertise will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Colin.

PS - i have an electrician friend who will be more than happy to help me - but he has done nothing like this before!
