I beg to differ Sir..The first street lights to be installed in the uk, where on Embankment London. Which used arc electric lighting
 
But in all truth Trev....big difference from lighting up a long road like Embankment....to a whole town like Newcastle...lol

That is in the link I posted . I was going to link to Lord Armstrong but I don't want half of the south on our worn out back roads lol.
