Hi,

I am erecting a porch, I will have a single light and a socket in the porch, taken from the current circuits.

My consumer unit has Protek MCB-106/2B 6A for the downstairs light an Prokek MCB-132/2B 32A for the sockets.

Would the recommendation / Regs be to change the RCB's or RCBO's ?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Mesh

Thanks LankyWill - I will not do the work on my own.

I'm trying to understand when the electrician tells me what I need / don't need, that I can have an informed discussion. Safety is paramount, so understanding rather then just saying "yes sure" is important.

If my question is too vague, then educate me. What should I ask?

If you don't trust the advice of whomever is pricing for the work ask them to show you the Regs/building regs to justify their views

As a basic idea, for normal circuits in a domestic residence then 30mA RCD protection is mandated for all new work where:
There is a cable (without earthed covering) buried in a wall at <50mm depth (or in a metal containing wall at any depth)
A socket rated <20A (e.g a normal domestic socket)
All circuits in a room containing a bath or shower.

There are other requirements for 30mA RCD protection but these are relevant to less common scenarios for a normal house.
