excuse the paraphrasing .I'm trying to figure out if lighting circuits in group 1 /2 locations HAVE to be on rcd.or if it depends on...eg...unprotected cables in a metal stud wall ...or if it is in a room containing shower
710.411.3.2.5 says ..in medical locations of group 1 & group 2...WHERE rcds are required only type A or B (not type AC) shall be selected..
then
710.411.4..TN systems says ..In final circuits (which presumably would include lighting ?)of group 1 rated up to 63 amp rcds SHALL be used
then
next paragraph says in medical locations of group 2 rcds shall ONLY be used for operating tables X rays etc.
it just sounds a bit conflicting to me...or maybe just too late at night to think clearly.

Hi - I'm not expert on medical locations, but this is my take :

710.411.3.2.1 : confirm if you are in room designated in gp 1 or 2 (where tripping itself causes a hazard as it interrupts a medical procedure). If so, then AC type RCD shall not be used. But type A or B (best in my view) may be used.
710.411.3.3 : confirm if your room uses IT system, if so additional protection by an RCD shall not be used.
710.411.4 : if TN used, use RCD spec from 415.1.1 (but type A or B) . Note the list of circuits is not exhaustive but it specifies some that are compulsory.
710.411.5 : if TT used, refer to 710.411.4

So I think for a non IT medical location 1 or 2 we should provide additional protection using RCD type B for lighting if required due to the usual cables in walls etc. Also lights are likely required to be emergency type.

I'm sure some more experienced heads will help out :)
