Thanks all, for the information given in my last post on this forum...

Got another long email from my friend in Cyprus today. Seems he has settled on having an ''off grid system'' as this will best suit his needs. He's been looking at different panels and inverters etc, and has asked me a couple of questions that i can't give him a distinct answer too.

1/. what's the difference between on grid panels and off grid panels?? Seems that one type of panel is more expensive than the other..

2/. Same question but this time with regards to inverters. Is there a reason why you can't use an on grid inverter with a voltage regulator. I would assume that they are configured or use with an incoming grid supply, so will not be suitable, ... but not having any experience with PV systems i'm asking those that do ...lol!!

3/. Is there a system that can supply it's rated power direct to a dedicated load plus charge a battery storage system??

4/. If so, ....what is the best combination of battery size and numbers to supply a 1.5KW load for say 6 hours. He's looking at an overall system of supplying directly at around 3 to 3.5KW.

He's also mentioned these solar panels that look like roof tiles. I don't know much about the different types of panels, but i would take a guess and say these cosmetic type panels are not as efficient as the standard PV panels, would that be a correct assumption??

He's looking at spending around 10k for this system, whether it be just storage back up or if it's possible direct supply and storage back-up, may be a tad more, for the latter system...

Any and all advise that i can pass on to my friend, is very much appreciated...
