Recently read a thread on the forum that I thought I'd bring to the attention of others. Hopefully it'll help cut out scamming in the industry, if that's what it is. I'll let you decide.
A company called MyHome Installations Limited, website MyHomeUK.co.uk, was hard-selling "Wolf of Wall Street" style to the elderly.
The thread on ElectriciansForums.co.uk which has so far attracted quite a bit of attention (820 views by electricians) proves that the average electrician assumes that their charges were overpriced to say the leased, and their tactics, perhaps untoward is understated.

The response from Liam Walsh the Director of MyHome Installations Ltd is as follows...
"As the director of this company I am personally disappointed about the findings made during your investigation. I am particularly upset because this is the second time we have featured on the BBC watchdog programme. As a company we have implemented many internal policies to improve our services. These improvements include a revised code of conduct, the monitoring of marketing calls, new customer feedback forms and limiting the time our sales representatives spend on sales visits. We are a medium sized company employing over 90 members of staff and the objective is to ensure a consistent, high level of service is provided throughout our business. We didn’t get it right in 2012 and we accept we got some things wrong again.
Although the investigation has highlighted a specific problem with specific case studies, it would be wrong to suggest this is a reflection of the way we do business. I am proud that over the last 5 years, we have installed over 4,000 security alarms and fire safety systems in homes throughout the South East making our customers feel safe and secure. Last year, electricity alone was responsible for 70 deaths and 350,000 injuries in the home. These are statistics which we accept we encourage our sales staff to share with customers and make no apology for doing so. We have found many people are unaware of the dangers and risks associated with electrical fires and part of our business is to also ensure people are educated about these risks. We do not accept this is pressure selling, its important to explain to our customers why they need the product we are selling. There is no question of any misrepresentation, all of our statistics are quoted directly from The Electrical Safety Council, the UK’s leading consumer charity.
For these reasons we encourage our customers to take advantage of the electrical installation condition report. The report is prepared by electrical engineers who are fully qualified and properly vetted to ensure they are competent to carry out tests and inspections.
All of our prices, as described in our brochures, are fixed, clear and transparent. Whilst we accept our prices may be higher than other smaller companies, we are proud to be one of the few businesses who provide comprehensive five year warranties for the electrical systems we install.
You have highlighted specific alleged failings with the condition report in your case study, we do not accept these failings and we have set out the details of why we disagree on our website."
As a result of this programme, ELECSA have suspended their membership. With the following comments.
We were alarmed at some of the acts uncovered by the report and obviously take such matters very seriously.
The company has been assessed regularly and there are no concerns over their technical competence. However, while the sales technique of our contractors is not part of our regular assessment process we are shocked by the conduct displayed by individuals representing MyHome Installations Ltd.
We have therefore taken the step to suspend MyHome Installations Ltd, limiting them from using the ELECSA brand to take on and notify any work while a full and a thorough investigation is underway.
The ELECSA brand is one associated with excellence and we felt this action was necessary to assure the public about the expected conduct of our registrants and uphold the reputation of other ELECSA registrants.”
The local paper for Kent, where MyHome are based, had the following article soon after the airing of the BBC Watchdog programme.
